Hillel Gallery Project Show — "In Your Face"
One of my pieces was recently displayed at the Hillel Gallery Project annual juried show.
It was curated by Brown and RISD (Rhode Island School of Design) professors Wendy Edwards and Linda Sormin.
I took this photograph of Colette in the red room installation that I made in the Brown University class “Hybrid Art.”
I made the installation with Jenny Filipetti. It was based on the associations evoked by the rich scarlet color of the room: violence, passion, sex, blood, love, hate…
We brought in a fallen tree from a recent storm and took a drill and screws to it, thinking of the figure sculptures some African tribes had in their villages, into which nails were hammered for various mystical purposes.
I’ve done a series of photo shoots in the installation since then and will be posting more images and video soon.
